Description
It would be great to have a little project-filter in the directory tree.
We have a few users with administrator accounts that create and share items for other users and often have to browse the directory tree. We have over 450 users in BASE now what accounts for a large number of home folders to browse through when looking for the right user. User's home directory is usually shared to a project (s)he works in, so filtering directories based on currently active project would be a great time saver for our admin-users. Something like a filter in all the items lists, although, we don't see a need for other ways of filtering than project-based. A checkbox saying 'in active project only' (switched off by default), next to refresh button would do the job.
Could you consider adding such a feature?

Wouldn't this just move the problem to finding the correct project and activate it? And the number of projects is probably larger than the number of users... Or am I missing something??
But it is fairly easy to find the project since you can filter the project listing (on owner for example)
My idea is that it would be better to provide a link in the right-hand side (eg. the list of directories and files) that can synchronize with the directory tree. For example, the directory icon currently only has a visual function. We could make this clickable...
I like this idea.
Would it be possible to add a search for directories and files. The search result is presented in the file view to the right and then clicking on the directory or file icon would take you to the proper view, i.e., showing the content of the directory searched for or the content of directory where holding the file searched for.

The filter already searchs both files and directories for columns that are common, eg. name and description. All other columns only exists for files.

Replaced by #1413 which is probably a better solution.

I am not sure if we mean the same thing. I meant a search function that actually searches all files and directories not only the ones in the right hand view. The result of the search would be displayed on the right and then clicking on icons would take you the proper place.

Well the directory tree is not filtered on the projects, is it? So if I have an project activated or not, the directory tree is the same. It is only the files that are displayed to the right of the directory tree pane, that get shown or hidden.

I think #1413 solves the issue more in a better way. It is a lot quicker to use the filter function on the right-hand side to find the correct user and then click on the home directory. The directory tree will automatically adjust. With the solution proposed in this ticket you will first have to navigate to the View -> Projects page, locate the proper project, activate it, then go back to the file manager and activate the filter.
If you still think you need the directory filter feel free submit a patch.

OK, I see now what is 'clickable folder icon' about. That should do it, I agree.
